Portimao fixes

My previous message:
OK, the curbing isn't going to be a fast, easy fix like the pylon was. To get a true fix, I'll need to change the UV mapping for all the models that contain those curbs so that I can use a texture that has some depth and detail...as they currently stand, the curbs are simply "painted" with an overall color with no regard for detailing or shadows to give them depth. However, as a temporary fix, I changed their color so they're no longer that obnoxious day-glo orange. With the attached file, they're now a somewhat brick-red color. They still need work, but this color is less eye-searing. Drop the file into your Portimao directory. You can also edit the file and change the color if you think something else might be better.
Hoss' response:
Dennis, methinks that perhaps your perspective on what kinds of problems should be solved with texturing is a bit askew.
Unless the UV mapping on those things is royally f***ed, you shouldn't have to completely remap them in order to effect a fundamental improvement in their appearance.
Remember every 'shadow' effect you put into a texture is 100% wrong for all but one single perfect theoretical lighting condition.
My response to Hoss' response
My thinking is that the only real way to fix these curbs is with a small change in the coloring so that it's easier to differentiate the front side from the back side. I'm not trying to give it realistic shadows, I'm just trying to give a little more 3D appearance. Since the UV mapping has the layout for those polys in basically random locations, I can either remap those UVs to common positions, or I can assign a custom texture to each curb. Neither one is a trivial fix, but I think remapping the UVs is ultimately a better solution. If we want to make changes later, it's easier to change a single texture than it is to change multiple models.
Ok, yeah, that sounds like it's in the 'totally f****ed' category -- i.e. the author utterly neglected to do anything meaningful with them, presumably because they didn't use any kind of meaningful texture.
Yep, that's pretty much the case. Remapping the UVWs shouldn't take all that long honestly, finding an acceptable texture may...if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears....
Portimao is now fixed, but is not yet 'complete'. The track changes have been made, but it needs to be packaged up as a GMWC version. However, every time I try to do that, I screw something up and the track just disappears from the list of tracks in rFactor...so I'll let someone else do that bit
