Bremerton Raceway

Posted by Dennis Loyer at January 22. 2012

Starting to think about making my own track again..

Bremerton Raceway utilizes an unused section of Bremerton Airport for a local, club-racing scene. The club's eventual goal is to purchase the property from the airport, and develop a racing facility that could handle something a bit more than the local drag races, club racing events and occasional track days.

The layout I'd like to create is sort of a what-if scenario. What if the club succeeds in buying the property. What would the track look like with some improvements. Maybe not the sort of improvements you'd see at a world-class venue, but certainly something a bit more than what they have now. Including some small, yet permanent, grandstands, as well as temporary grand stands...etc.

Attached is an image of the facility made up of a composite of screen shot taken of satellite views from Google Maps.

I've marked the paddock area with a green line, grandstands (with their viewing direction), are also marked in green. The track route is marked in blue...the narrowest point on the track is around 25-30 ft wide...is that wide enough? Or should I make that section a touch wider? Pit lane is marked in Yellow, with an alternate pit-out marked in red...not sure which pit-out lane would be safest.

Comments/thoughts on the layout?

EDIT:

Grandstand "boxes" are NOT to scale...in fact they're probably 3X-4X actual size. Total track length is about 1.6 miles long. I'm willing to "pave over" some of the foliage if needed...for pit areas, paddock, etc...I'd like to keep as much of the racing surface on the original pavement as possible.

25-30ft is pretty narrow but not drastically so. I'm assuming it is that narrow area on the left. If so you'd need to widen it to about 45 ft to give room for cars to move about on what is the longest "straight" on the track.

I'd also prefer the red pit exit as it releases into slower traffic instead of right into breaking point traffic.

Otherwise I think its a good layout.
