In my pipeline I'm not exactly sure what a 'model name' even is. There are the sometimes cryptic or ambiguous automatically generated names I get in Blender (cube001 or whatever) that I don't bother to change, because I never see them downstream. I pretty much work exclusively in terms of material names and file names. If the blender names survived, then I don't think matching is required, since my stuff works, but 3dsimed may have made them match. Once into rFactor (instance names, etc), I know they don't need to match, since those are not even 1:1 with gmts.
edit: I've also straight-up renamed gmt files and reused them, so that further indicates that the filename need not match any names in its content.
S'ok....I figured out what the issue is. Not that it's really an issue. In 3dsMax you have the ability to name your models...handy when your "scene" is made up of multiple models. Anyway, the GMT export tool doens't give you the opportunity to name the file you export, it simply creates a filename using the model name...<modelname>.GMT...So it's not that the filename has to match the model name, it's that it can't do anything but match....
Of course we should.
When in doubt, borg. The question is should we 'only' re-use that wheel. I'm thinking both a full version and a gutted version (with the LCD removed so the dash can be seen) are in order.
Odds are, as you do that, you'll get ideas, and the borg will become less raw than you anticipated. At least that's how it usually goes for me.
OK, got the Thebes wheel repositioned and dropped it into the F1_88 mod to test how it looks (testing with the McLaren 88 car). I've got something odd happening. The wheel is in the right spot, but when I turn my DFP wheel on my desk, the in-game wheel moves from side to side instead of rotating...Somehow I got the rotation point for the wheel set a couple feet below ground instead of in the middle of the wheel. Any idea how to change that? I looked at the pivot point in 3dsMax and they look right, so It must be another point that needs adjusting. I checked out the RSC forums to see if they were back up and I could find an answer there...They're not up yet, and according to the sight, they're never coming back...not as an active forum anyway. If they can get the data recovered, they'll put up a mirror of the forums as they currently exist for archive purposes, but that's it.
