Naming the grid-gp series (poll)
Up to League
As I mentioned in the 2010C Adjustments thread, we need to finally address the naming ambiguity regarding the series in the league.
Historically, 'GMWC' has been the label for the primary grid-gp series. Going forward, however, 'GMWC' is the name of the season-ending capstone competition. So we have to decide what to call the grid-gp series. There are now actually two of them (one conducted on Fridays and one on Saturdays), but I'm not worried about that - we'll just call them the fri and sat version of whatever name we pick in general. If they deviate enough from each other in future seasons to warrant unique names, we'll deal with that when it happens (but you can factor that into your opinions now if you want).
So here's a poll with some reasonable candidate names:
http://gridmotorsports.com/polls/2010c-series-names
Please use it to vote, and use this thread for discussion. If you want to nominate something that's not on that list, you can post it here and if it seems reasonable I'll add it to the poll (votes can recast until the poll is closed).
For the sake of reference, the other official series in the league right now are the following:
- GTCC (Grid Touring Car Championship)
- GMOC (Grid Motorsports Oval Championship)
NOTE: I feel bad running the poll while AJ is on vacation, but note that this isn't binding. He'll get a chance to weigh in (and veto if he feels strongly enough) when he gets back.
How bout working in the name of the winner constructor from the previous season? Obviously this sounds a bit self serving since Antares won last year. I have not thought about exactly how it could be done, something like the way the Indy Car series does it (IZOD IndyCar Series)..."Antares Grid Motorsports Formula Championship" AGMFC?
On the up side it might make people think about the name of their teams since having the league named "Joe's cool beans Grid Motorsports Formula championship" probably would not work well.
Of the options listed I'm partial to reducing the number of "G"'s as it seems to feel wrong saying something with more than one G.
Vote submitted.
guh.... that's ridiculous. :-b
IndyCar got *PAID* huge buckets of money to slap 'IZOD' on there. It's called: advertising sponsorship. And it turns otherwise hallowed sports events into emasculated bitches shilling for some random crap. Like the Tostitos Bowl. Jesus, come on.
And no, we won't be putting team names into the SERIES identity, if for no other reason than the fact that the series isn't JUST a team competition. If I'm an indy driver and I win the thing, I sure as hell don't want it called the '<some-joker-team-I-didn't-join> Championship'.
Also, the series name gets used in lots of places administratively (and in configs for the results scripts), so on a more practical note I don't want to change it constantly, or preferably at all.
wellll...we could still follow their lead and go with the GRL for one and maybe Grindy for other...ok maybe GRL and just Grid

Dennis, either I misunderstand you or you misunderstand the poll. We're not renaming the league, just the grid-gp series.
The league was, is and will be: Grid Motorsports. Note that I'm in the process of phasing out references of 'GMWC' where it was used as a league identifier (another duplicity that I've complained about in the past). We've tossed around the notion of 'GMRL' before... maybe it makes more sense now that we're eliminating that double-meaning for GMWC.
But this poll is for the purpose of deciding what to call the (two) competitions that use the grid-gp cars, in road course events, as a season competition.
