Monza (alternative)

Posted by Alan at September 08. 2010

Ok so Monza creates issues.  With the fast straights and heavy braking zones it's bound to cause problems, however it is a very nice race track and with so many versions available can we not abandon it completely but take on another version?.  I was thinking 70's Monza or 67, these are fast circuits with no heavy braking but still take skill to drive fast,  they produce excellent racing in the publics.

Alan, er, oh, ok, Alan, whew...fast straights and heavy braking are sort of the point of tracks like Monza and Montreal.  While I agree that due to latency issues, this particular track genre is strained for online racing, the few times we do schedule this sort of track, I'd like them to represent this genre of track.  We have tracks like Fuji 90 as the all-out fast circuit genre.

Note that we only ever schedule Monza and Montreal when then coiincide with F1 (or one week off in this season's case).  So they are already pretty rare.

Although this is heresy, would mandating ABS on all cars for Monza make any difference?

Was there really a big problem with braking 'control'?  My guess is it is more with braking 'decision making', which global ABS would probably only make worse.

edit: and latency, which ABS is neither here nor there on.

There was indeed a problem with braking/control or braking decision making, pile ups in every race some I was directly involved in and others I wasn't, It is difficult to get a race under way at Monza without extreme caution at T1, which btw, I thought that the T1L1 rule would be interesting as I have never raced this track with it in place.  However it didn't make an ounce of difference.  Agreed AJ Fuji is a better speed fest, also Laguna.
