This is a new special event for the league.  It's going to be a setup-focused qualification event -- mimicking the Indy 500 qual.

The most critical thing to know about the event is that there is going to be a small mod update published on Saturday (likely in the morning some time) that makes final adjustments to the oval package for the vehicles.  Thus, we ensure 'new' vehicle characteristics for all the drivers, for the event, compelling everyone to do setup development/tuning during the event itself.

So, it's vital that you allocate time for updating the mod, on Saturday!

The entire event will likely be conducted as a single qualification session -- i.e. all laps count.  The pole-sitter at the end of qual is the event winner.

Due to request, one or more races will likely be run after qual, just for fun -- no results will be counted for anything.

[EDIT]

AJ reminded me that we actually plan to employ more intricacy to the format:

  • One big 3 hour long practice or qual session, at least as far as rFactor is concerned. However, much like our yellows, lucky dingos and dogs, and restarts, we will manually impose other gameplay upon this open session.

  • An official qualification run is four contiguous laps. The posted time is the sum of all four laps. We may use mph or kph, since this normalizes performance per lap to the same space as the four lap total (you get a more intuitive handle as to how a single lap compares to the sum).

  • To start an official run, you simply announce you are ready for a run to the marshal. All cars will be called off track and the run can begin. Everybody is then watching every official run, which adds to the environment. There should be plenty of ooohs and ahhhs for cool wrecks.

  • A driver may abort a run before the end. If a driver finishes the fourth lap, the run is official, and one of the driver's attempts is used up. If the run is aborted, an attempt is not used up.

  • A driver gets 3 attempts.

  • The best run at the end of the full session wins. Note that this will differ slightly from Indy, in that at Indy if you start your run by the time the gun sounds, you can finish the run. rFactor will only let you finish if you start the last lap in time.

 [UPDATE]

Results can be tracked on this google page.

We start making left turns at 5est, as usual. Ive always wondered why you usally start race day late, after countless practice laps. It all makes sense now.

Paul Ricard is here

I didn't update the mod as i wasn't taking part last night but i now get an error connecting to the practice server for Interlagos.  Will everything be reset or the mod updated again back to normal?

We generally never 'revert' updates, unless something's broken.  And in fact there were changes in the recent update that are considered permanent (the establishment of a formal grid-oval class, rather than an oval package upgrade).

You'll need to update.
