Alonso's comments in China
Up to Real-Life Racing
One word: classless.
But I guess he's in the right series, since that's the best description of F1 as well.
And while we're at it, I now officially don't believe anything out of Coulthard's mouth. Describing Heidfeld's qual out-lap pass as "the worst example of sportsmanship I've ever seen" is just patently absurd and a terrific way to destroy your credibility. Way to go DC. Jackass.
You need to cut Coulthard some slack. Remember, he's not calibrated to a league with Doug in it.
BTW, Doug should get some off-track sportsmanship award for tolerating the role we've given him.
Actually, wrt to Coulthard, we did not actually see what Heidfeld did...and it /is/ possible to be very unsportsmanlike with timing and off-pace blocking. That's why Matt S was soo mad a season back at Spa during qual. If that /had/ been on purpose, that would have been pretty bad. Anyway, this is when Coulthard's history, which has been long and pretty honest, does carry at least enough weight to cut him some benefit of the doubt on this...balanced of course with Heidfeld's straight-player rep (which I'm sure you give a hefty load of weight to
). I currently file it as 'he said she said' which pipes directly to /dev/null.
And another thing!
Both my wife and I quite frankly sick of how Peter Windsor gushes over Lewis Hamilton every chance he gets....I was gobsmacked when I heard Windsor pre-framing his post interview questions to Lewis about how inappropriate Fred's comments were, and when he speaks to Fred, he starts off on how refreshingly open he (Fred) was, so WTF?
It's clear: Peter wants to have Lewis's baby!
Come on. "The worst..." Really? Seriously? How 'bout no.
Heidfeld had this to say.
And Where. In. The. Hell. does flavio get off saying that Hamilton is "not a worthy champion"?
Are these people serious? Is this for real? Jesus with this much catty backstabbing bullsh** it's like they're all hanging out in the girls' restroom in high school.
They should all have their man-cards revoked.
"Fred"? What is he, your neighbor? You have him over for bbq?
I've got no love for Windsor, but "Fred's" comments *were* obnoxiously inappropriate. They were, in point of fact, in direct violation of the competitive spirit of racing.
And Windsor is essentially obligated to be a suck-up, since that's the only way these f***ing prima donas will give him the time of day. If he, or anyone else, were to actually behave like a real journalist around these guys, they'd just blacklist him and he'd never get a single quote out of anybody.
The ironic thing is that ol' suck-up Peter is employing journalist rule #1: get 'em to talk. If he wants Hamilton to purr, he scratches Hamilton's back. If he wants Alonso to purr, he scratches Alonso's back.
He wanted Coulthard to purr after the Heidfeld incident, so he scratched Coulthard's back.
Don't hate the playa. Hate the preening chumps he has to coax soundbites out of.
And just to bring this back full circle: Alonso is a giant prick. What he said is the equivalent of, say, Sergio Garcia declaring that he'd concede putts to Tiger Woods in the Masters if it would help Tiger beat Mickelson (not that such a thing is legal in PGA, but if it were...). That yanks the spine of legitimacy right out of the body of the competitive series.
To be honest there so muche shite in the media these days, i just ignore it. I dont even bother tuning in to the pre and post race stuff now, just watch the race and draw my own conclusions. Although at least the UK TV coverage has some very good ex F1 drivers on the team who give pretty good impartial commentry.
