08A Zandvoort

We already have what I think to be a decent setup package for zandy. That is if we say with the RF1. I'm gonna run a test of both this week and make a final decision. I'm really excited to see what we can get out of tires at this track with the new H option tires.

Larry based on last season, I think you could actually pull a one stopper with the new tires. I would test that out this week and report your results. I plan on doing more tire testing this week than speed tests.

Oh, and I'm gonna have enough fuel. I've told my engineers to listen to that crazy redneck on the pit crew. He seems to be dialed in.

I just wanted to remind the team that setups will be posted on the team page found here.

Tom - I was so dialed in for Zandy, then I had a big update issue trying to sync.  I couldn't get it resolved before the race. Sorry to let you and the team down.  This is just like the ups and downs of real racing isn't it?  I had practiced with the hard "white" tire (is that the new H option?) and felt with the setup I could load enough gas (with my on top of it pit crew) to finish the event without a pit stop! My plan was to hang back, keep out of trouble, slowly pick up the pace and just keep going while others made there stops.  Do you think it would have worked?  I ran a 20 lap race with 3x fuel and 3x tire wear and I believe I had the AI at 103% to make up the difference of our improved models.  Although two cars started to seriously close in on me over the last two laps, I pulled it off.  In a live event it may have turned out different but it could have been close.

Zandy was 30 laps, so you probably had a one stopper easy.  Everyone else did 2 or more stops.

You would have been way better off on blacks with a one stopper then whites on no stops. You have to figure your lap pace plus pit stop time to help decide pit strategy. AJ was on a flying pace with a 2 stopper on blacks. I was on a 2 stopper on reds. His pace was in the 120's/21's with those while I was trying to save grip with the reds and had a 121's/22's for my pace. So he got wayyyy out ahead of me in first. I practiced a one stopper as well, and the weight penalty on the fuel was just too high for me and my pace.

I personally think your goal should be the fastest one stopper you can do whenever possible. I think a quick one stopper will be hard to beat at Interlagos. I also think, though, that a one stopper will be hard to get. But I'm the guy who's had a regular problem with my tires.

I would like to say that I did very well on my tires this time. I'm still wondering what wing AJ was running on those blacks. In my testing I could never in the 120's on blacks.

In practice I liked the feel of the blacks and found I could run in the 1:20s but for only about 10 laps before over heating the fronts.  That is why I switched to the hard whites.  It really does take the perfect balance with 3X tire wear to keep from running out of tire too soon.  What really got me in my first race at Zany was how fast the front not only wore out but actually blew out.  I had two front flats!  Basically a novice error but still you would think there would be better warning.
