bad car recourse

Posted by AJ Weber (Admin) at January 11. 2010

Hoss will be making an official post with official rules clarifications, but at the moment he is buried with some visible (attempting to get an update out this week) and invisible IT (like our revision control) issues.  So I'm chiming in because there is a GP race this week, and given what you said last GP race, I thought you should know your options.

First, you said that you feel your car is not as competitive as you'd like it to be.*  We already had some officially written recourse, but we also have some not-yet-written recourse.  Here are your (or any team in a similar situation) options:

  • Stick it out with you current car.   This is the only option that lets you keep your nice bright orange liveries.
  • Temporarily (for the rest of 10A) have all drivers go indie, and pick whatever other car they want.  They only get to pick once though.  If you still want to operate as a team, just all agree to pick the same car.  However, in this option, you are all technically indies for 10A, which simply means RAC will not score points in 10A.  Then for 10B simply rejoin together officially to RAC with a new 10B car.  This option is already within the officially explicit rules.
  • Wave the white flag and give up on your 10A car and use/buy the 'default' GMWC car.  In this option you do not get to pick any car you like, you only get to pick the default league car.  However, you remain a team, and RAC still scores points.  This is the to-be-wriiten-down option.  Note that the default car is based on the MRDC car, so you'd already have a head start using Andy's/MRDC's well thought out setup base.

* I actually am not sure I buy that the car is not competitive, although I admit, out of the box, it has more issues than most.  I still think it is possible that the setup range is wide enough that your car can be 'fixed' with setup.  Given the right mindset, and time, that could actually be the makings for a fun challenge.  But I understand if your team judges otherwise.

This should cost atleast 4 points 2010b budget lolll.

What was prompted to place this in the team page? RAC in general had a bad weekend at Sepang just over a week ago, and have generally not been doing to well the last season or two. I am, from now going to be gainfully emplying the other primary driver in the team (Ian) to also assist in car design for the 10B season, as I have been lacking in time to actually design and test the team car. Ian know's how to add the prototypes into the mod, but does not know how to change the parameters on them, and there for I have created a (prelim idots guide) to creating a prototype.

And no Ant, I sha'll not be waving the white flag, have no intention of doing so either.

I put this on the RAC page because all RAC drivers left Sepang after citing the reason to be an inadequate car.  I think everyone, both RAC and other teams, would rather keep the field in play rather than force a team to gnash their teeth then quit.  So Hoss and I discussed adding that extra option, as well as pointing out the existing one.  However, it sounds like you want to stick it out with your car, which if you can stick around for features races, I think is the best option to take.  I'd recommend starting from scratch on a baseline setup and open mind, and see if you can get a comfortable car to build from.
