Team Application

Posted by Andy Jones at May 10. 2009

Congratulations chaps ! All your tempting offers have not fallen on deaf ears. I'm yours.  At least until something better comes along naturally. ;O)  It'll be great. I'm house trained, I don't cuss much and certainly won't be showing up any existing team members with excessive displays of pace.

So why for would I do such a thing ? Car looks great, sounds great, goes easy, and I reckon I can produce a cool custom livery that will really go with my eyes.

It's a going to take me a while before a get on track. Suzuka maybe or Interlagos, I expect, but when I do, I'll be delivering maximum value to the team by going slowly enough to ensure everyone gets a good chance to read the sponsors logos.

Do a vehicle submission for your team selection.  That way it does not fall through the crack.  Be sure to specify your driveline.

On behalf of SDL welcome tothe team Andy.  Currently with the exception of Dennis we are all relatively slow so you will be in good company.  I hope to see you on the servers sometime soon. I plan to be online Monday  and Wednesday  (minimum) at around 6:00 US Central I guess that is around midnight for you, that mat be too late for you.  If I can offer any assistance just fire off a post.  Have you gotten enough feel for the car to determine which driveline you wan tto use? Dennis is running the Helo and I run a Gyro.

I'll hang on a bit before committing to the driveline. Helo is most fun but since target 1 will be race consistency I'm assuming at this point I'll go with an AS* - but to be confirmed.

I trialled the setups from a previous season for Estoril - for some reason they imported with a brake bias all the way to the rear (1:99) which made slowing down a challenge but after fixing that I found the one from Dennis and from C that I loaded up were both a bit loose and a bit lively off the kerbs to be practical over 40mins for me.

The good news is that a bit of a wing twang with those ones OR a bit of a wing twang and a height reduction from the default setup and I was getting pretty similar outcomes all round. That's good for me, because I'll be quite short of time certainly for this season, and it suggests that me and this vehicle may not be critical on setup. That'll mean I should be able to find a stable baseline and spend all of 5 mins/track actually changing the setup rather than wearing in the groove.

I particularly liked the predictability - so for me at Estoril I had a best of 1:20.8 approx, but had sessions running 5-10 laps consectutively sub 1:21.5

I'm gonna post a few questions on the forum about a few things I want to get fixed up that I've not been able to find in rFactor (or perhaps found but not understood), which should mean I'll be good to fix driveline hopefully this week.

One more thing - to fix my personalised livery am I good to go with a GOLD stripe and do I need a car number ?

With these new cars, if you like helotek inherently better, I HIGHLY recommend using helotek from the start and use K tires.  Also, use heavy aids (upgrades has higher levels) at first and dial them back over time.

Last season setups are completely incompatible with this season's cars.  Dennis will hook you up with much better setups for your SDL car this season than anything you'll get from last season.

Ask Dennis on the stripe.  You do not need a car number.
