Website hosted on new server

Posted by David Hostetler (Admin) at January 23. 2011

I finally got the web services migrated over to the new hardware.  So as soon as I can get the caching layers configured we should see a very nice improvement in performance of the site.

But even without that, things should hopefully feel a little snappier.  Seeing as we went from 1GB to 16GB of RAM, and from a 1.6GHz single core AMD sempron to a ~3GHz quad core AMD Athlon II.

Note that no code changes were made - this was strictly a hosting migration.  But it was the lynchpin for enabling me to do a whole bunch of stuff -- we've been totally hand-cuffed on the old server for quite awhile.

At any rate - please keep an eye out for abnormal behavior of any of the site features.

Thanks.

Is this forum-specific or does it apply to the rfactor servers that we use as well?

It's just the website stuff.  Our rFactor servers are all hosted on a separate dedicated box (which is plenty powerful enough for what we need -- the limiting factor is bandwidth).

Excellent - way faster in my perception from here. Means I can jump in and comment in the time it takes the boss to walk from his office to my desk. Yay !

OH yea...it's faster, the seats are heated and it has a new car smell too! :) (Very noticeable speed increase!)
