Problems building
Up to Support
Hello:
I'm trying to reinstall the mod in a new laptop i have so i can participate in the next season. The problem is i use Vista 64 bit latest service pack.
I installed rfactor with no problem. I installed the bootstrap and it went fine, and then decided to sync. A problem appeared with the cygwin1.dll, i looked for a solution in the forum, found another version of the assembly and used that one and it synced.
After the sync the manager is supposed to restart and build, but it doesn´t, it just stops there. I restart the laptop and the manager wont start, double click and nothing happens. Somehow after the sync the mod manager file does not work anymore. I tried running the program in win xp compatibility and it ios a nightmare, a bunch of win32 errors and the ram fills up, the computer wont shutdown.
I'm attaching the log. I wouldn´t use this laptop for rfactor unless it was absolutely necessary.
Later and thanks for the help,
Abe
I can't speak to the issues of 64 bit and rfactor/mod manager, however I had similar problems with executing the mod manager, which I solved by right clicking the mod manager icon and choosing "Run as Adminstrator".....mind you, I'm running Windows 7 on this laptop, and can't remember if Vista has that feature, but it may.
Hope that helps
BTW, Hoss:
FYI, I am successfully running rfactor and the mod manager on a Toshiba Satellite A210 laptop, running a 32-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7 RC. As above, any problems installing or executing were solved by running the install package/executable as Adminstrator. I thought you'd like to know as we're going to see Windows 7 more and more in the near future. (it definitely beats vista).

Mike -- thanks for the report from the frontline. That is good to know, as I do not (yet) have access to any windows7 systems.
Hello:
Thanks mike, I did try running as administrator and it didn´t work either.
I too have a windows 7 system and i can also say that it beats Vista by miles, it just works better, even on older machines. Much of the disk thrashing has been eliminated and the multitasking seems to work better. There is something really wrong with Vista, it was just a mistake for Microsoft to sell something so badly built.
Sadly i can´t install rfactor on that machine, not because it wont run it but because i won´t be able to set the wheel up on that desk. Still if it comes to that i might try and do it that way but it would be much easier to move the laptop to another desk every saturday than the pc tower. I'm planning on installing windows 7 on the laptop but i need something a bit more long term than the release candidate.
Thanks for the help.
