Internet Explorer 8 - Safe to update yet?

Posted by Joe Stalans at May 03. 2009

Well the next windows update that is on the list is "Internet Explorer 8". I've been holding off because.... well yall all know why (unseen problems). Has anyone else updated to it yet and had no problems. I've always felt like no virus software in the world will protect you if you don't keep windows updated all the time, but now IE 8 is the next and only update now. Thanks for input

I tried it and couldn't get our website here to show properly, even in compatibilty mode.  Any one else have that problem?

Otherwise for the short time I used it, it seemed to do just fine.

I have no official comment yet on IE8.  Other than what I always say regarding browser issues: I don't develop the site to any individual browser, nor do I tend to waste time accomodating their particular failings.  The site uses normal, standards-compliant markup and scripting.  Honestly that's all I have time for.

What's particularly annoying about the IE8 update is that in addition to calling it 'critical' and foisting it on everybody, it actually RESETS IE to be your default browser.
