The importance of the correct steering ratio!

RSC is back online.

This is an interesting thread.

BTW, what is the Steering Ratio for the gp cars ?

900 degrees of rotation always felt awkward for me and I mostly used 720, but for GMS I was using 360 rotation and 15 degrees of steering lock in the game.  This setting keeps my wheel working in the top 180 degrees (90 degrees left to 90 degrees right), it feels good but may be quite inaccurate, I still get some real jerky reactions.

One important thing to consider with how many degrees of rotation you set you wheel to is the motor speed.  If you use FFB, the motor speed it pretty important to how it feels, and can limit how many degrees feel good.  For example, most entry level FFB wheels ($120 and less sidewinders, thrustmasters, momos, DFPs, etc) have really slow motors.  So even though a DFP can do 900 degrees, I think it feels way too sluggish with that, even for heavy 70s sedan cars that really should have all that rotation.  On the other hand, a Fanatec or G25 feels just fine with lots of rotation, although for formula cars I don't like too much rotation anyway.
