Configuring the HUD

Posted by Andy Jones at March 12. 2010

I see that in 2010B we have a fine array of cockpits available to us. To make good use of those, it's desirable to be able to control what parts of the HUD rFactor is displaying.

A couple of questions :-

1. Has anyone analysed what the options are for picking bits and pieces from the HUD. It looks like you ought to be able break bits out, but my first experiments didn't get me much past "all" or "nothing". I guess the potentially separable parts are:

  • message centre
  • positioning "line" showing cars on track
  • speedo thingy
  • multifunction display (tyres, damage, pitstop etc)

2. Is a repeat of speed available in the incar cockpit display ? I seem to remember that rFactor's not wired for that ? Correct ?

Try the number keys.  They toggle HUD elements.

Check out the mkII gauge.  It has both a digital and analog dial speedo.  The analog even has a high water mark needle.

AJ, the speedometer part of the D-Gauge still doesn't seem to work right. I moved the shift counter off the dial, and that works fine, when I moved the shift counter, I replaced it with a digital speed readout, but that still doesn't seem to be working...

I check it out when I get home.  The gauges are extremely sensitive to wiring issues, and something may have been tweaked out of line.

Well, even if it remains "broke", it's not a critical gauge for me, at least not on raceday. During setup it's nice to see the top speed you reach on a straight as just one of many performance indicators. Since I tend to have the full hud turned on during development, not having the speed on the car's dash isn't that much of an issue...

It'll work.  Maybe not in time for official CSP, but definitely in time for main release.
