Scaling Heats

by David Hostetler [modified 2009-03-13 13:18] [posted 2008-02-04 22:44]

Description

This format combines a handful of races to determine a single result for the event.  The starting grid for each race is affected by the results of the previous session.

Schedule

  1. drivers meeting (~5 minutes at the start of the event)
  2. qualification session (~20 minutes)
  3. heat #1
  4. hear #2
  5. heat #3
  6. 10 minute intermission
  7. heat #4

Settings

  • damage is set to 100%
  • tire wear is set to 3x
  • fuel burn is set to 3x
  • for each race the actual lap count is determined by dividing the target race duration by the track length
  • all races use a standing start

Heat #1

  • drivers start in qualifying order
  • a fixed length race lasting no more than about 6 minutes

Heat #2

  • drivers start in reverse qualifying order (i.e. reverse of the heat 1 starting order)
  • a fixed length race lasting no more than about 12 minutes

Heat #3

  • drivers start in reverse Heat 2 finishing order
  • a fixed length race lasting no more than about 24 minutes

Heat #4

  • drivers start in Heat 3 finishing order
  • a fixed length race lasting no more than about 48 minutes

Scoring

Each driver in each heat scores the same number of points as their finishing position (i.e. third place in a heat scores 3 points).  The exception is first place which scores zero(0) points.  A driver's final score is the sum of all of their individual heat scores.  The final event results order is the driver order sorted from lowest to highest total scores (i.e. lower scores are better).

In the event of a tie, greater weight is given to scores according to the length of the race in which they were earned, so any two drivers can be differentiated based on their relative scores for the longest heat.
