MRDC-10B Introduction

by Andy Jones [modified 2010-03-21 05:51] [posted 2009-11-15 06:07]

The MRDC-10B is the second GP class car fielded by the Midpack Racing Drivers' Club and so is an evolution of the 2010A design which has proved very successful. Here are the details of the car.

Car Shape

The MRDC-10B will use the GMWC car shape with the following options:

  • low nose. Gives a good view, with some angular features as reference points
  • cockpit D. Includes nearly a complete repeat of the rFactor HUD, so gives the opportunity for racing with an uncluttered screen
  • standard induction, fis-sans sidepods and the B wing design are simply aesthetic choices.

Car Livery

The car livery has also been reworked entirely for the 2010B session, with the default club car as shown below. However, as with 2010A, drivers are free to choose their own colour combination or more elaborate design and I'm happy to create a custom colour version for anyone who wants one.

Car Design Choices

Based on the 2010B menu of design choices, and the MRDC design aims of a car that is easy and consistent to drive, this is how the MRDC-10B looks.

No. Item MRDC-10B Choice
Cost Comment
01 Aero Package
gp_flex 2  Flex front wing gives consistent behaviour in traffic
 02 Diffusor medium
1  Widens the envelope of good downforce and good grip in turns
 03 Suspension Type
gp_kpi 0  A new choice for 2010B. No certain performance advantage but a good feel
 04 Front Track
1630 0
 05 Rear Track
1600 0
 06 Suspension Material
polymer 1  Unbreakable suspension. Removes suspension damage as a possible DNF reason
 07 In-car Brake Bias
no 0
 08 Longtitudinal CG
TBD 0  The balance in this car seems to need to go a little way further forward than 2010A. Value is like to be .55
 09 Advanced Materials
232 0
 10 Advanced Packaging
0.02 2  A key control for personalising the feel of the car. Should simplify the MRDC setup approach.
 11 Third Spring
No 0
 12 Pit Stop Technology
gp_2 1  Trade off against keeping the gp_flex
13 Brakes nanotech 2  Minimises brake variability as a factor. Should allow consistent performance on each turn and each lap.

Most of the principle features of the car were clear from the outset, with the choice between the final point being the gp_flex against pit stop speed. The default CG likely to be at .55 is based on the 09C championship winning Antares configuration adjusted for the different wheelbase of the 2010B config . However, as the MRDC-10B retains the good longtitudinal adjustability of its predecessor, and so should allow fine tuning to match the new car.

As always, the key factor is to maximise the fun of race night. This car, with the 232 CG height is the young sibling of 09C Antares and is a great car to drive. If you finding you're seeing too much cockpit vibration, the page linked below gives some hints on how to fix it

Setups

Standard packs of setups will be available from the Setups section. However for initial testing the 2010A setups transfer quite well. You may just want to move the CG forward 0.5 percent :  MRDC10A Setup Guide
