Up one level

Official announcements from the Rusyn team. News items posted here will get automatically published on the website's front page.

Rusyn Performance Dynamics launched their car for the 2008A campaign today at their home facility in Brno.

The chassis is designed in two configurations: the rusyn-8a for helotek drivelines and the rusyn-8a-a for as1 drivelines. This approach is to facilitate more optimal behavior of the differing drivelines using the same setup approaches. The rusyn-8a is an evolution of the rusyn-7d, with a slightly shorter wheelbase, reducing understeer tendencies in flat and off camber corners. The brakes will remain the mk2. The tires will be the same as for all teams, the H option tire by Vanderwall.

The engine, the kosice-02, is a revision of the 2007A engine, with 90% of the same parts. The exhaust has been redesigned to improve power at revs past peak (over 9500rpm).

The 2008b Rusyn Chassis will be developed throughout the off season up until the Istanbul update (yeah, yeah, I know, that's only a few days away).  This phase of development will be offline due the quick turnaround necessary for changes.  After the Istanbul test feedback on the chassis will be considered and the final car design will be finalized.

Former CPS owner, Tom Giangreco,  has signed a one season deal for 2008b with Rusyn Performance Engineering.

A rusyn-8a grid-gp car stolen before the Silverstone (NHS) event was recovered last night.  The remains of the car were found in an alley in Melbourne Australia, spray painted with what appears to be the picture of an egg with eyebrows.  According to authorities there are no suspects. However, some Australian investigators were reported to have boarded an airline bound for Turkey.

The current version of the rusyn-8b ran its first public laps yesterday at Istanbul Park.  However, reports are that it is not performing up to expectations.  Test driver Tom Giangreco describes the rusyn-8b as, "* ******* ***** ** ****!!!", and reportedly compares it to what he left.  And why.

On track the best laptime of the rusyn-8b was 1:34.8, which at the time seemed a decent laptime.  However, the test team also brought a rusyn-8a along for comparison, with which they achieved a best laptime of 1:34.0 -- the old car was 8 tenths faster.

The Rusyn team principle says the rusyn-8b is still in development, and it sets up quite different, so laptime comparisons are not relevant yet.  The test drivers do not seem so optimistic.

The rusyn-8b is shorter and wider than the rusyn-8a, presumably to provide more agility and better tire wear to be more competitive with the low-stop strategies that saw success in 2008a.   The rusyn-8a was notoriously harsh on tires.

Scott, a real-life open wheel veteran, has joined Rusyn.  Welcome.

In probably the most shocking development of the offish season (off overlaps with first cup), Rusyn has signed former Ridgefield principle Matt Steele.

Matt will provide value where Rusyn has been sorely lacking on several fronts.  First, he will be driving and developing the Rusyn gyrotek package (Moe cheers).  In this role he has already submitted chassis design changes to the rusyn-8a-a that will result in the rusyn-8b-g, notably the addition of the Ridgefield diffusor.  Second, he will be providing his renowned engine support (gearing, brake mapping, etc) for the kosice-02 engine package.  Finally, he will be providing points in the team championship battle.

Win on Sunday, er Saturday, sell on Monday

Mike Redmond has officially joined Rusyn for the 2008C campaign.  Sammy Thiels has also informally (no official form submitted yet) indicated intent to use Rusyn machinery (possibly as an Indie to use the kosice-02).

2008C Car

For gyrotek, as1, and as2 usage, Rusyn will continue to use the proven rusyn-8b-g.  For helotek usage, the new rusyn-8c, derived from the rusyn-8a, will be used.  All factory cars will use the new kosice-03 engine, with increased peak power, but less low end torque.

New Testing Facilities

Rusyn test tracks are available (using the mod manager auto-join feature) for online testing.  These tracks are Montreal, Suzuka, and Jacksonville.

Retirees

Matt Steele and Scott are not expected (but are certainly welcome) to make any 2008C starts.

il Corse Gazzetta, formerly the Ministry of  Propaganda for race team Corse Perdando Sonno, and now schlepping for Rusyn Performance Dynamics as the Department of Information and Truth has learned that a group of no goods has sabotaged the delivery of the great Ruysn 8c. The group, calling itself the Axis of Just as Evil released a statement deriding the evils of global warming and other maladies such as why is there never a seat cover in public restrooms when you need one.  Formerly operating under the names Axis of Somewhat Evil, Axis that isn't the Worst but Certainly Won't be Invited to the Gala and Axis of Not So Much Evil Really As Just Generally Disagreeable, before settling on the Axis of Just as Evil have claimed responsibility as the saboteurs. No one knows the exact whereabouts of the group, but they know they are not. This has been further narrowed down to places they could have been, as well as, places everyone wished they had been when we were so they could have been apprehended.

RPD has said that while the delivery was sabotaged, the actual vehicle is still in good condition. Due to GMWC rulings, Rusyn will not be able to field their car for the season opener at Spa. However, the team would like to thank all the chicken and duck that made testing the new vehicle possible. Neither team principal, AJ "the orangutan" Weber or driver extraordinaire Tom "the greatest thing since artificial sweeteners" Giangreco could be reached for comment.

The team did allow the press to examine the letter and it was immediately notice that the letter was signed simply,

SDL

As of this writing, a  Rusyn driver sits atop the Hot Lap Rankings (HLR), with all 4 rank laps done in a rusyn-8c/kosice-03/hel/J grid-gp car.

Note that all grid car types are allowed in the HLR, including the very high powered grid-f1, which makes the Rusyn all that much more impressive.  Given this, clearly the SDL team must be cheating in the championships, so a private investigation into wrong doing by SDL staff and drivers has been initiated.   Reports are that gold painted lead zeppelins have been found duct taped to Rusyn diffusors after recent races, causing both mass and aero based performance losses.  (Maybe SDL has gotten too cheap to use all gold zeppelins anymore).

An explosion at the Rusyn factory today was traced to a grenade-like device, made primarily from a gunpowder filled lead casing, shaped like a zeppelin, and painted in gold.  While the exploded device itself was not actually found (it is presumably shredded since it exploded), several like it were found, some still taped to diffusors.  On such device appeared to have skin tissue and a bit of blood on it, as if it had been used as a blunt projectile.

As a result damage from the explosion, the two chassis program of Rusyn (rusyn-8b-g, and rusyn-8c) will be downsized into a single chassis program for season 2009A.

Given recent events surrounding the end of the GMWC 2008C season, Rusyn remains at the cusp of racing evolution. While the season had a spate of gold zeplin weilding neanderthals driving like drunk sailors around the race track, that very same team of drivers took the moniker, "It's so easy a caveman could do it," to new heights of glory and prestige and bested Rusyn for the team championship, as well as, the drivers championship. There are rumors Rusyn team owner and principal has initiated a R&D program to assist the drivers of the Rusyn team in devolving into a version of primitive man to compete more closely with the rest of the pack. Upon hearing the news, other GMWC drivers grunted and beat their animal skin clad chests at the notion that drviers of the Rusyn team could be improved simply with any type of genetic modification or de-evolution.

"These claims are absolute fantasy", said AJ Weber Rusyn team principal and owner. "If we answered or responded to every ridiculous claim about our team, well...we'd be pretty busy. We are working very hard on our 2009A car and livery. Our goal is to remain competitive, continue to win races and grow our stable of drivers into the premiere team in GMWC." When asked to further clarify his comments and provide detail into the strategic plan for 2009A, Weber was less than forthright keeping any inside information close to his chest.

"The fact is if Rusyn was half as cool as the other teams, we'd only be a quarter as cool as we normally are", said a defiant AJ Weber.

On his way out from answering questions, AJ walked out with his hands and arms waving  above his head. It was very similar in the way that an Orangutan would walk. The irony was chilling.

Tom @ 2008-12-23 18:50

As mentioned in the preamble of this article, il Corse has the opportunity to post an exclusive sit down we had with AJ Weber, owner and team principal of the incredible racing team of Rusyn Performance Dynamics. If you would like to comment on this article please email directly to hoss@gmwc.com.

il Corse (IC): Thank you for taking the time to sit down with another journalist so we could steal it from them later.

Android Julius Weber (AJ): Aren't you a little short to be a stormtrooper?

IC: Rusyn started as an essentially one man show. Now you have one amazing second seat driver. Looking back and planning for the future, what are your thoughts?

AJ: Things are proceeding as I have forseen

IC: When you saw him driving for other teams, including his own, what were thoughts about his driving?

AJ: The force is strong with this one.

IC: Rusyn has many supporters most of which wear shirts with (rm -rf) printed on them. A fanatic group indeed, yet you also have many detractors. People who feel the best days of Rusyn are over abound. You lost the the previous Drivers Championship by only a few points. Lost the Team Championship. What say you?

AJ: I find your lack of faith disturbing.

IC: What do you say to your drivers before the start of a big race? Any insipirational words you can share?

AJ: Do or do not. There is no try.

IC: It looked that at the beginning of the upcoming 2009A GMWC season that your car would not be ready for the team before the start of the season. There was an accusation that one of the cars in development was sabatoged and this hampered your ability to field a car. Given that, it appears you are hitting the season with a partially completed vehicle. Is this true?

AJ: As you can see, my young apprentice, your friends have failed. Now witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIPONAL battle station!!

IC: OK. A little cryptic, if not strange. I know you probably can't answer this question with any specificity, but you can't fault me for trying. What are the power/speed specs on the Rusyn 09A?

AJ: It's the ship that made the Kessel run in 12 parsecs.

IC: Isn't that a unit of distance, not time?

AJ: :-|

IC: Why haven't you released team driver bios on your website?

AJ: You don't need to see his identification.

IC: Tom Giangreco wrested 5 place from Celso Antonio Banderas Jorge in the last race for yet another season. What did you say to him over the radio on the final lap?

AJ: You're all clear kid, now let's blow this thing and go home!

IC: Thank you for taking the time to sit down with us. It's always a pleasure talkning with GMWC's premiere racing team. I do have one final question.

AJ: I have a bad feeling about this.

IC: You look really familiar. Do ywe know each other?

AJ: I am your father.

IC: Really?

AJ: Look sir, droids

IC: Thank you, Mr. Weber.

AJ: May the Force be with you.
